nothing to see here.

So I'm not really into Homestuck fandom per se; I find that I love the comic but not for the characters, mostly. Still, sometimes an idea won't leave you alone.

I'm trying to make this balanced, but I wouldn't recommend it in play, especially since the balance of Sidereal martial arts is all weird and up in the air at the moment. It's also mostly unfinished (up to the Form only) and I need to write a sutra for it that's appropriately thematic. Eh, well, I need to put it somewhere.

Viridian Denial of Limitation Style

This art is a closely-guarded secret in Yu Shan, revealed only to the most trustworthy agents of the Bureau of Destiny. Though undeniably powerful, its practitioners fall under no small degree of suspicion, for its thematics are unmistakably Infernal in nature. Some say that some ancient Sidereal developed it upon witnessing the Green Sun Ligier in battle, while others whisper that it mimics the Essence of Malfeas himself. Either would be cause enough for concern, and practitioners of this Style are closely watched.

Only the wisest sages of the Forbidding Manse know the full truth. Viridian Denial of Limitation Style partakes, not of the Essence of the Wicked City, but of Malfeas-that-was, the Holy Tyrant, the Empyrial Chaos who ruled the Primordials before the Exalted cast them down. But not even they have guessed the consequences of preserving the Essence-pattern of the ancient Primordial even in imperfect form -- for who could have foreseen the Green Sun Princes?

Viridian Denial of Limitation Style uses only the sword as a form weapon, and explicitly may not be used with daiklaves of any type. As an explicit exception to the normal rules concerning acquisition of Sidereal martial arts, Infernal Exalted may learn this style to the Form as though it were a set of non-favored Yozi Charms. Moreover, while a tutor is required for the first Charm of the style, warlocks may thereafter learn Charms from it without a tutor. To reach beyond the form, the Green Sun Prince must have mastered the Howl of the Devil-Tiger and become his own legend, shedding the shackles of the King-that-is. At the Storyteller's option, however, those who master the style in full may find that the Holy Tyrant's Charmset is open to them.

FLICKERING VIRIDIAN STEP
Cost: 1m; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 5; Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Obvious
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: None

The martial artist begins to free himself from the constraints of space. By spending a mote of Essence at most once per action, he may flicker and vanish from his current location, reappearing anywhere within twice his (Dexterity + Martial Arts) yards. Because he does not actually pass through the space between locations, this movement ignores obstruction and hazards, and requires neither line of sight or line of effect, though the Charm will fail if the martial artist attempts to step to a location occupied by another object. This action breaks flurries, ensuring that only the first attack applies, unless the attacker's weapon has enough range to encompass the Exalt's new location.

BLADE SEEKS THE HEART
Cost: 7m, 1WP; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 5; Type: Supplemental
Keywords: Obvious
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: None

The martial artist's blade blurs, evading the restrictions of space to strike at her opponent's flesh directly. This Charm enhances an unarmed attack, causing it to ignore soak entirely. In addition, it is undodgeable unless the target uses a Charm to enhance his Dodge DV directly.

UNCHAINED EMERALD STORM
Cost: 10m, 1WP; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 5; Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Obvious
Duration: Scene
Prerequisite Charms: None

Viridian energy flickers up and down the martial artist's blade, enhancing it to peerless heights. For the remainder of the scene, damage rolls with unarmed attacks treat a number of dice equal to the Exalt's Martial Arts as automatic successes, and all such attacks gain the Overwhelming (Exalt's Martial Arts) tag.

UNSURPASSED EVASION
Cost: 7m, 1WP; Mins: Martial Arts 6, Essence 5; Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Obvious
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Flickering Viridian Step, Blade Strikes The Heart

Upon receiving an attack, the martial artist chooses to be elsewhere, flickering briefly out of existence. This Charm perfectly defends against a single attack, regardless of applicability. If he makes a counterattack in Step 9, that attack gains the Unexpected quality in addition to any other effects. This Charm may only be activated once per action.

EARTH-DEFYING STANCE
Cost: --; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 5; Type: Permanent
Keywords: Obvious
Duration: Permanent
Prerequisite Charms: Flickering Viridian Step, Unchained Emerald Storm

The martial artist treats space as an optional construct, ignoring it when it pleases her. When activating Flickering Viridian Step, she may choose not to reappear until her next action tick. In addition, attacks made on the tick she reappears ignore cover of any kind, and attacks made against her on actions when she uses Flickering Viridian Step treat her as having partial cover (as though she wielded a shield).

VIRIDIAN DENIAL OF LIMITATION FORM
Cost: 15m, 1WP; Mins: Martial Arts 6, Essence 6; Type: Simple
Keywords: Obvious, Form-type
Duration: One Scene
Prerequisite Charms: Earth-Defying Stance, Unsurpassed Evasion, one complete Celestial Martial Art

Upon activating this Charm, the Exalt seems to merge with his anima, becoming a totemic hybrid of idealized symbol and once-human warrior. His form seems to flicker at random, crackling with emerald energies, only nominally constrained by the limitations of space and time.

This Charm allows the martial artist to activate Flickering Viridian Step once per tick as an innate power, instead of once per action. If he does so in combination with an attack, that attack becomes Unexpected if the target's Wits + Awareness is less than the martial artist's Essence + Martial Arts. In addition, he automatically gains an unarmed counterattack against each attack made against him while this form is active. As a final benefit, if he chooses to reappear in midair after using Flickering Viridian Step, he may remain hovering there as long as this Charm remains active.

DEV COMMENTS

Post-form Charms start expanding the range of FVS to approximate Bec Noir's teleporty murder tricks, and go up an energy-blast path (treated as a form weapon), as well as possibly doing some tricks with the Holy Tyrant's old attributes. The capstone Charm is an E8 murder-beam.
